At the cornerstone of our teaching philosophy is the idea that the concepts of Yoga must be first understood through the body and the dynamic, conscious practice of asana. The YogaWorks method is a blending of the three strands of the Krishnamacharya lineage, coupled with the unique approach to sequencing that is specifically designed to meet the needs of the average yoga student. The YogaWorks method incorporates heat and flow, precise detailed instructions and posture modifications so that the practice will fit the practitioner.
Our programs emphasize a student’s personal practice as the source for their creative teaching, and include a comprehensive study of the techniques and mechanics of fundamental yoga postures, as well as the tools necessary to teach and inspire others. To deepen their education students will also study functional anatomy and physiology, explore Yoga’s philosophical underpinnings, practice meditation and pranayama, and investigate the ancient science of Ayurveda.

The curriculum will include a comprehensive study of the foundations, techniques, and mechanics of fundamental yoga postures with an emphasis on deepening the student’s personal practice and recognizing and honoring it as the source for inspiration and creative teaching.

Over 2,000 years ago the sage Patanjali described the process of Yogic movement toward higher consciousness and peace in his treatise “The Yoga Sutras.” His teachings are a living, practical model that, once understood, can be applied to all aspects of daily life. This course will introduce students to the wealth of inspiration available in the Yoga Sutras.
The Art of Teaching
The art of teaching is a form of yoga in itself requiring sensitivity, compassion and practice. A teacher must encourage and inspire, and be sensitive to both the needs of individuals and those of the group. The practical and subtle aspects involved in teaching addressed in this course include:
- How to be an effective teacher
- Use of voice, body language, touch
- The art and science of sequencing
- Learning how to see and understand bodies
- The purpose and use of props: in personal practice and class setting
- Hands on adjustments
- Practice Teaching
What some of our past graduates have to say about YogaWorks Teacher Training:
“Whether you’d like to become a teacher or just deepen your practice, this 200 Hour Teacher Training comes HIGHLY recommended. Laurel is amazing and comes with a ton of experience & passion. Elevate Yoga is the perfect location, and assistant Jamie is fabulously talented. What a team. I was very fortunate to have learned so much from them.” ~Christine
“I would recommend this training to anyone who is looking to learn more about the human body (my teacher Laurel is an anatomy buff to say the least), more about their own spiritual journey, and certainly more about their yoga practice.” ~ Alicia
“YogaWorks Teacher Training was amazing! I was thrilled to be able to do this training right near my home in NJ instead of commuting to the city. Jamie was so supportive of us all, and the training gave me the foundation in yoga I was looking for. Plus I made some wonderful new yogi friends. I am so glad I did this.” ~Angela
“I learned to teach Yoga in the supportive atmosphere of the Elevate Studio. Both the studio and the YogaWorks program inspired confidence and fostered proficiency. The YogaWorks method emphasizes correct alignment so that the greatest benefits of yoga are available to students at all levels. I am proud to have graduated from this program!” ~ Mary
“I was searching for an alignment based yoga training program to develop confidence that my practice was within my body’s capacity to achieve maximum health benefits with minimal risk of injury. I wanted to safely deepen my yoga practice without any intention to teach. As a result of a successful program, today I have the confidence that comes with demonstrated mastery of basic and intermediary yoga concepts, philosophy and proper instructional techniques to be an enthusiastic and aspiring yoga teacher.” ~Isabel
“I have been practicing Yoga for 7 years now, mostly through larger gym-offered classes, and although I had some good teachers in the past, I realize now that there were also many that were really not in tune with what I now believe to be safe-teaching practices. This training took a lot of what I thought I knew about Yoga, and threw it out the window…I took many steps back to ultimately move way forward in my practice after this training.” ~Sonya
